Promising debut for new N14 as Wozencroft shines again
On
a rally of high attrition the Revolution Wheels Rally Team
run by Geoff Jones Motorsport recorded a 100% finish rate
on last weekends Jim Clark Rally. With all three drivers consistently
on the pace, along with young James Wozencroft’s fourth
overall in the British Rally Championship classification,
there was much to be positive about.
Bishop Stortford based Rob Swann struggled
with a series of punctures on the debut of his new Subaru
Impreza N14. However Rob was pleased to be on the pace of
the front runners until he suffered the ignominy of rolling
his N14 at high speed on the final stage. Rob and his Phweli
based co-driver Darren Garrod were caught out by a 5th gear
jump over a bridge. Fortunately neither were injured and in
fact continued to finish the rally, albeit down in 18th overall.
"We were really unlucky to get
caught out over that bridge, but thankfully we are both ok.
The car is good but there is definitely still work needed
to get her perfect, but there is massive potential!"
Karl and Guy Simmons were enjoying a strong
run in their Subaru Impreza N12 until an ambitious assault
on the famous Langton Watersplash caused the air filter to
become saturated with water, causing a loss of power for two
stages. Brake problems on Sunday, caused by a faulty cylinder,
caused a heart stopping moment as the pair were forced to
spin to stop the car, ending up beached on a bank for some
time. However they returned home in eighth position. "The
Jim Clark is a brilliant rally and always one of our favourites.
It’s just a pity that the problems at the end cost us
two places, but thankfully we emerged unscathed, albeit a
little shook up! Apart from that we are really happy with
how the weekend went."
Ludlow
based James Wozencroft and Chris Ridge in their Subaru N11
were on the pace of the front runners all weekend, aside from
2 quick spins, did not put a foot wrong, ending the rally
4th amongst the BRC crews. "What
a fantastic weekend. It
was a bit of a learning curve but Chris and I drove at our
own pace and were pleasantly surprised to be up with the likes
of David Higgins. We made a few silly mistakes but it’s
all part of the learning process."
Team principal Warren McKiernan was pleased
with how the weekend had panned out.
"I am delighted with the pace of all three drivers, we
showed that on a clean run we can challenge for the podium
positions."
The Jim Clark International Rally was based
in Kelso, Scotland, and featured 150 stage miles in 17 stages
run over Saturday 24th and Sunday 25h of May. The rally, which
counted towards both the Tesco 99 Octane MSA British Rally
Championship and the Global Irish Tarmac Championship, was
won by Eamonn Boland in a Subaru Impreza World Rally Car.
Mark Higgins was the first British Championship registered
driver home in third overall.
